Convert PDF Tables to CSV

This extracts tabular data into CSV so it can be opened in a spreadsheet. Results depend on how the table was built: ruled tables with clear borders extract cleanly, while columns held together only by spacing need checking.

How to Convert PDF Tables to CSV

  1. Upload the PDF containing the table.
  2. Run the extraction.
  3. Download the CSV and check it against the original.

When you would use this

  • Getting figures out of a supplier's PDF statement for reconciliation.
  • Turning a printed price list into a spreadsheet.
  • Extracting survey results trapped in a report.

Questions

Why are my columns merged?

The table probably has no ruled borders, so the boundaries are inferred from spacing. Check and correct in the spreadsheet.

Can I extract a table from a scan?

Run OCR PDF first. Without a text layer there is nothing to extract.

Can I get Excel format directly?

The output is CSV, which Excel opens natively.

Need this at scale?

These tools handle one document at a time. When the job is thousands of files, Greenbooks handles document digitization as a managed service, including bulk scanning, OCR and metadata capture, with the output loaded into DocuVenta DMS. Talk to us about volume work.
