Overlay Two PDFs

This superimposes one document on another so both print together. It is how a plain content file gets combined with a letterhead or a pre-printed form without either being redesigned.

How to Overlay Two PDFs

  1. Upload the base PDF and the overlay.
  2. Set the alignment.
  3. Apply, then download the combined file.

When you would use this

  • Adding a letterhead to a document generated without one.
  • Placing content onto a pre-printed form layout.
  • Overlaying a revision marking across a drawing set.

Questions

How is this different from merging?

Merging puts pages one after another. Overlaying puts them on top of each other.

What if the two documents have different page counts?

The overlay typically repeats or stops. Check the output.

Will the overlay hide the content underneath?

Where it is opaque, yes. Use a transparent PNG or a faint watermark instead if that is a problem.

Need this at scale?

These tools handle one document at a time. When the job is thousands of files, Greenbooks handles document digitization as a managed service, including bulk scanning, OCR and metadata capture, with the output loaded into DocuVenta DMS. Talk to us about volume work.
