Extract Pages from a PDF

Extracting copies the pages you choose into a new PDF and leaves the original alone. It differs from splitting in that you are pulling out a selection rather than cutting the whole document into consecutive parts.

How to Extract Pages from a PDF

  1. Upload the source PDF.
  2. Enter the pages you want to pull out.
  3. Extract, then download the new file.

When you would use this

  • Taking one certificate out of a bound scanned volume.
  • Sending a client only the three pages that concern them.
  • Building a short evidence bundle from a long report.

Things to watch for

The original is never modified

Extraction produces a new file and leaves the source exactly as it was.

Non-consecutive pages are fine

List them individually, for example 2, 7 and 15, and they are collected into one new document in that order.

The text layer travels with the pages

If the source has been OCR'd, the extracted pages stay searchable.

Extracting is cleaner than deleting for small selections

If you want three pages out of two hundred, extract them rather than deleting the other one hundred and ninety-seven.

Choosing the right tool

Extract Pages copies a selection into one new file. Split PDF cuts the whole document into consecutive parts. Remove Pages keeps the document and drops a few. Pick by what you want to end up with: a selection, a set of parts, or the original minus some pages.

Questions

What is the difference between extracting and splitting?

Extracting copies a selection into one new file. Splitting cuts the whole document into consecutive pieces at the breaks you set.

Can I extract non-consecutive pages?

Yes. List them, for example 2, 7, 15, and they are collected into a single new PDF.

Does the original change?

No. Extraction produces a new file and leaves the source untouched.

Can I extract pages that are not next to each other?

Yes. List them and they are gathered into a single document.

Does the original file change?

No.

Can I extract into separate files rather than one?

Use Auto Split Pages, which writes each page out individually.
